Luke Losey followed Cillian Murphy through an East London costume shop with a pocket cinema camera, shooting in under a week and letting the future Oscar winner play a fragmented, masked character called the Generic Man — a dark, dystopian twist on the children's show Mr. Benn about breaking free from the nine-to-five. Murphy provided the lead vocals and helped design the masks with costume designer Minna Attila. 8:58 is Paul Hartnoll's post-Orbital project, named for the anxiety of the two minutes before the workday begins.
