Aphex Twin
Aphex Twin's "Windowlicker" was designed as a direct satire of the "hype" hip-hop videos of the late 90s. Director Cunningham, Chris took the glossy aesthetic of videos featuring cars and models and twisted it into a nightmare, literally pasting the artist's grinning face onto every character to mock the vanity of the music industry. The absurdly long limousine featured in the video was a customized 1995 Mazda Miata (MX-5) that was stretched to 38 feet. The video features a four-minute opening dialogue sequence that contains 127 uses of profanity, which had to be heavily censored for broadcast. In 2000, the video was nominated for Best British Video at the Brit Awards, despite being vastly different from the pop acts it was competing against.
