The surreal, looping narrative of Björk's "Bachelorette" was achieved almost entirely with practical effects. Director Michel Gondry built a series of nested, theatrical sets to create the video's famous "story-within-a-story" effect. The video's handmade, almost fragile quality is intentional, mirroring the story's eventual collapse as nature tears through the artificial stage world.
