Hiro Murai built the entire video around psychological misdirection: Donald Glover and a troupe of schoolchildren perform viral choreography in the immediate foreground while apocalyptic violence unfolds in the deep background, the long continuous takes mimicking the experience of scrolling a social media feed. Glover's contorted posture before the first shot is a direct reference to 19th-century Jim Crow minstrel caricatures; choreographer Sherrie Silver wove the South African Gwara Gwara into American hip-hop trends, and SZA makes a silent, uncredited cameo at the end.
