Dave Gahan originally hated the concept for the "Enjoy the Silence" video. Director Corbijn, Anton forced him to carry a folding deck chair through the mountains of Scotland and Switzerland in freezing conditions to visualize the "luxury" of peace. By using a handheld Super 8 camera and a ridiculous costume, they created the most iconic visual in the band’s history. The band members only appear in the video for a few seconds as because the location shoot was so long and physically demanding that only Gahan and the small camera crew attended. Corbijn, Anton later directed a "Director’s Cut" of the video that featured more footage of the other band members, but the "King" version remains the iconic cultural standard. The video was filmed across multiple countries over several weeks, utilizing a guerrilla-style crew to avoid the need for massive trailers or support teams in the remote mountain locations.
