The video for "Praise You" only happened because Fatboy Slim hated the official video for "The Rockafeller Skank." Desperate to work with Spike Jonze, who was booked solid, he received a joke tape of Jonze dancing alone on a sidewalk to the song — and essentially told him to do exactly that for the next single. Jonze created the fictional Torrance Community Dance Group under the alias Richard Koufey and shot the video guerrilla-style outside the Fox Bruin Theater in Westwood in under 10 minutes, with no permits, for a total cost of about $800. The real crowd waiting for movie tickets had no idea what was happening; the theater manager who comes out and turns off the boombox was not part of the plan, and Jonze's immediate hug was improvised. The video won three MTV Video Music Awards (Jonze accepted in character as Koufey), and in 2001 it was voted the best music video of all time in a poll commemorating MTV's 20th anniversary.
