A haunting time capsule of the exact moment Courtney Love became the focal point of the grunge era's grief. Samuel Bayer brought the same grainy, high-contrast look he used for Nirvana, using hand-cranked cameras for unnatural movement and a bleach-bypass lab process for the sickly, desaturated color. The set was filled with actual Victorian doll parts Love helped source as a "shrine" to her own life, and the shoot was grueling — the band was still processing the loss of Kurt Cobain and bassist Kristen Pfaff. Love's "kinderwhore" dress became a massive fashion trend, and the video was nominated for Best Alternative Video at the 1995 VMAs.
