Madonna
Mark Romanek's "Bedtime Story" transformed Madonna into a museum-grade artist: a painterly, digitally surreal trance with direct visual homages to female surrealist painters Remedios Varo and Leonora Carrington. At approximately $5 million it was the most expensive music video ever made at the time, and it premiered at — and remains in the permanent collection of — the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It won the channel's 1995 tournament for best video of the year.
