Masnadero
The Mist Trial The music and lyrics are written, composed, and performed on vocals and classical guitar by Alessio Del Donno. Recorded by Antonio Del Donno at Donkey Studio. Post-production, mixing, and mastering by Antonio Prugno Siniscalchi. Featuring Andrea Vernillo (aka Atto Seguente) on musette and piano. Music video directed by 'el' and Alessio Del Donno Animations by 'el' Post-production, effects, and color by Alessio Del Donno Collage assistant - Enrico Varricchio Comment by 'El': The music video is rooted in the desire to combine experimentation with digital collage/stop motion techniques with a symbolic vision of reality. In parallel with my other audiovisual projects, I attempt to build an aesthetic and continuity around the substance of the concepts and topics covered in my work as a whole. In this specific project, they explored the more folk, punk, and psychedelic side of Masnadero's song. This was my first project outside my artistic comfort zone. I approached the process with complete freedom, which allowed me to go wherever my imagination took me, right from the initial storyboard. The narrative reference was the Sufi tale "The Song of the Birds," which tells of a thousand birds' search for self and God, guided by the master Simurgh. During the two months of work on the video, the subject underwent changes and adaptations as needed, given that it's a five-minute song and we had limited time to work on the project. In this, teamwork proved crucial, such as the collaboration of Enrico Varricchio (author of the album's artwork) who supported us with the collage aesthetic and manipulation, as well as the support of Masnadero himself as co-director, providing ideas and finding the right connection between our individual aesthetics, both during the final editing and during production. I believe the final result embodies the imaginative and symbolic spirit that distinguishes me, combined with the aesthetics and style of the "single," and this is very satisfying. I'm curious about the public's response and what it will inspire, and I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity to create this crazy "calling card." Comment from Alessio Del Donno: The idea of creating a video collage made of animations and mixed-media compositions had been bubbling around in my head for some time. Although I've already made numerous music videos for various bands and my own previous musical projects (23 and Beyond the Infinite, Faintin' Goats, among others), this was a technique I hadn't fully mastered yet. I met 'el' during the filming of a documentary I'm making with the film collective "Zauber", and after we met, I gave him a preview of the tracks from Masnada Classica. He immediately liked the music and we decided to try to make this video guided by the visual cues of Enrico Varricchio's collage artwork and 'el's previous animated experiments, mixing these techniques appropriately for The Mist Trial.
