The elaborate costumes worn by the band were designed by Colleen Atwood, the multi-Oscar-winning costume designer famous for her frequent collaborations with Tim Burton. The shoot was physically grueling. Drummer Bob Bryar received a third-degree burn on his leg that developed a staph infection, and Gerard Way tore ligaments in his ankle.
