Cat Solen is not primarily a music video director. She made early videos for Sia and Bright Eyes, then spent years in television before creating Adult Swim's stop-motion series The Shivering Truth — a show built entirely on surreal, handmade puppet-logic worlds. That sensibility is exactly what you see in "The Cure." The production company is Ways & Means. Creative director is Jamie Gerin. Rodrigo called this her favorite track on the album and its thesis statement. The video ends with the full-scale Rodrigo picking up the cardboard hospital diorama, setting it on the floor, and crushing it before walking out. The person who built the world of the song gets to destroy it. "Drop Dead" at Versailles with Petra Collins last month. "The Cure" in a cardboard hospital today. Two completely different worlds. Same commitment to craft. Album drops June 12. "Drop Dead" debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making Rodrigo the first artist to debut the lead single from each of their first three albums at number one. Rodrigo clarified on the Elvis Duran Show that "The Cure" has nothing to do with the band The Cure — she called it a happy coincidence despite her well-documented love of Robert Smith. The video crossed one million YouTube views in under four hours. The Unraveled Tour expanded from four Barclays Center dates to a ten-show residency due to demand. London's O2 is set for 11 nights.
