Jake Scott shut down Interstate 10 in San Antonio, Texas for three days to film a traffic jam where nobody moves and everyone's interior monologue floats above their windshields as text — a concept taken from the opening dream sequence of Fellini's 8½. It won four VMAs (Best Direction, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Breakthrough Video) from seven nominations, making it the most awarded video of 1994. The song peaked at number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100; the video is the reason anyone knows it. Scott, son of Ridley Scott, also directed R.E.M.'s "Man on the Moon."
