Thom Yorke nearly drowned multiple times to get the single-take shot for "No Surprises." Director Grant Gee used a diving helmet and filled it with water while the camera was rolling. Since the final video is slowed down, Thom had to perform the lyrics at double speed before holding his breath for half a minute The safety team on set utilized a quick-release valve to drain the helmet, but it notoriously jammed during several early takes, forcing the crew to manually lift the helmet off Yorke's head. Thom Yorke used a series of hand signals to communicate his oxygen levels to the director, but in the final successful take, he chose to ignore his own signals to ensure the shot wasn't ruined. Grant Gee later directed the celebrated Radiohead documentary Meeting People Is Easy, which captured the band's exhaustion during the OK Computer world tour.
