Scatman John
The artist behind the 90s global hit "Scatman" was John Larkin, a jazz musician in his 50s who struggled with a severe stutter his entire life. He created the song to confront his fear, turning the vocal techniques he used to overcome his stutter into a worldwide Eurodance anthem of empowerment. Scatman John received the Annie Glenn Award from the American Speech–Language–Hearing Association (ASHA) for his service to the stuttering community. Before becoming a dance star, he released a self-titled jazz piano album in 1986 under his real name, John Larkin. The song was a staggering international success, hitting #1 in at least nine countries, including Spain, France, and Germany.
