Spike Jonze's pitch was "a blue room, a Steadicam, and a pack of wild dogs." The band's one condition: no sweaters — every other director's treatment included them. The $60,000 video was shot in one continuous take with the band performing to double-speed playback, so they appear to move in slow motion; the final take was around take 15 or 20, by which point a dog had defecated on Patrick Wilson's bass drum pedal and the band had given up taking the shoot seriously. In 2018, Weezer recreated the video for their cover of Toto's "Africa," with Weird Al Yankovic standing in for Rivers Cuomo.
