Whitney Houston
Director Nick Brandt shot Whitney Houston performing in an empty, snow-filled theater — then studio executives re-edited his footage into a Bodyguard promo packed with film clips. Furious that his artistic visual had become a movie trailer, Brandt demanded his name be removed and was credited as "Alan Smithee," Hollywood's traditional pseudonym for disowned work. Kevin Costner personally suggested Whitney cover the 1974 Dolly Parton song; Parton reportedly earned enough from the cover's royalties to buy an office complex in Nashville. Brandt later became a highly respected nature photographer.
